Comprehensive Addiction Recovery Treatment Services

Research shows that providing evidence based individualized substance use treatment during
incarceration reduces recidivism by 64%. Wexford Health is experienced in delivering evidenced based
comprehensive substance use treatment throughout multiple states to individuals whom are
incarcerated. Our continuum of care includes medically supervised withdrawal (detoxification),
screening and assessment, medication assisted treatment (MAT) as well as individual and group‐based
therapy.

Wexford health provides prevention education as well as psychoeducation, and 12‐step facilitation. Our
programs include continuums of care such as Therapeutic Community (TC), Recovery Orientated
Community (ROC) (residential programs), Intensive‐outpatient programs, Sober Living Environments, as
well as transitional, re‐entry programming, and aftercare. All recovery services are individually designed
and delivered to meet the individual’s needs.

Screening and Assessment Services

  • Gain‐Short Screener (Gain‐SS)
  • Range of assessment tools including the Addiction Severity Index (ASI) and the Drug Use Screening Inventory‐ Revised (DUSI‐R)
  • Comprehensive Psychosocial Intake Assessment
  • Tertiary screening and assessment

Medically Supervised Withdrawal (Detoxification) Services

  • Assessment and identification of inmates in need of medically supervised detoxification utilizing the COWS (Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale) as well as the CIWA (Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment)
  • Comprehensive individualized treatment planning with extensive supervision and monitoring
  • “Motivational Interviewing” to engage incarcerated individuals in ongoing substance use
    treatment

Medication Assisted Therapy

Opioid Treatment Program (OTP)

  • Development of medical protocols for opioid detox with or without the use of Buprenorphine
  • Special provisions and addiction treatment for pregnant opioid dependent inmates
  • Risk management of symptoms for all inmates using a specialized flow‐sheet
  • Addictions specialists teach a variety of coping skills to help with the management of pain
  • Maintain and manage licensure and accreditation from BHA, SAMSHA and NCCHC

Pharmacotherapy

  • Agonists: Methadone or Buprenorphine are opioid agonists. The euphoric and sedating effects
    are blocked, withdrawal symptoms are managed, and the cravings for opiates are eliminated
  • Antagonists: Naltrexone; Revia as well Vivitrol are opioid antagonists that are approved for the treatment of alcoholism and opiate addiction. Naltrexone acts to block all the effects of any opiate and is effective for inmates who desire total abstinence

Individual and Group Addiction Recovery Treatment Services include:

  • Recovery While Incarcerated which includes a full spectrum of integrated addiction treatment
    services such as re‐entry planning, relapse prevention, intensive outpatient services as well as a
    residential recovery orientated community and sober living environments (SLE). These services
    are provided to all those incarcerated throughout the duration of their incarceration and are not
    limited to individuals being released.
  • Therapeutic Community based treatment services
  • Individual counseling as well as treatment planning and re‐entry services

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Twelve Step Facilitation
  • Guided Mindfulness Meditation
  • Psychoeducational Groups
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT)
  • Treatment of Co‐occurring Disorders (mental health and substance use disorders)
  • Specialized interventions for Women and Juveniles
  • Motivational Enhancement Therapy

Re‐entry Planning, Transitional Care and Aftercare Follow‐up

  • Create realistic step‐by‐step re‐entry plans to eliminate the potential for relapse and recidivism
  • Integrated planning with community resources, supporting substance‐free thinking and actions
